In our pursuit of sustainable material innovation, we embarked on a captivating exploration of local hemp, seeking to integrate its eco-conscious fibres into our design ethos.
Tasked by John Eden, we set out to craft two bespoke composite pieces for The Little Dispensary, a sanctuary blending wellness and creativity.
Drawing on our experience and research around working with recycled cellulose materials, we navigated the intricacies of crafting high-performance concrete surfaces, a vital consideration for large, thin slabs and areas prone to moisture. The pieces within the project are composed of hemp, recycled marble dust, blast furnace slag, and cement.
Collaborating intimately with John Eden, we honed the colouring and texture of these pieces to harmonise effortlessly with the project's aesthetic while ensuring they met rigorous performance standards. The hemp we sourced from the lush fields of Northern Rivers was cultivated with construction applications in mind, infusing the design narrative with a tale of sustainable material curation.
These bespoke elements not only anchor the space but also infuse it with a natural, inviting green hue, evoking a sense of warmth and accessibility—a testament to the fusion of sustainability and design ingenuity.
